Creativity in an innovative World

Creativity in an innovative World

Piyush Pandey, the godfather of advertising took us through a journey over the past two decades through the lens of memorable ads.

“Both creativity and innovation cannot be formatted in a document (!) as they change the format.” Piyush Pandey started by upending the format of the session as he went on to share his rich experience of working at Ogilvy for the past 38 years.

The interesting aspect was what made him stay at Ogilvy for that long. “What made me stay was the great work that the agency was doing, that allowed people like me to express myself. I was surrounded by great people. In all, we had lots of fun, good work and celebration. There were lots of shoulders and I was never once left in the dark. We were there for camaraderie.”

He beautifully explained human resources as human relationships with the help of videos from classic age-old brands like Fevicol and Asian Paints, which continue to refresh their relationship with the consumer. “There’s no difference in the relationship we are trying to cultivate between brands and consumers or the employers with the employees. This is like we buy a product for the first time and with time we earn each other’s trust.”

The funny thing about trust is there’s a word built into it  called rust. Half the time when we take trust for granted, it turns into rust. So, in any relationship, be it between employers and employees or brands and consumers you are bound to keep up the trust. If you lose the trust, you will pay a big price for it, like what you end up paying to your wife when you forget the anniversary. Maybe a diamond ring! Remember, the key in any relationship is refreshing the trust and delighting the partner or the employee in this case.

However, life must go beyond business transactions. It is not about you bought this product for so much and you employer paid you this much while you did the hard work. The relationship between an employer and employee is an ongoing thing. It must make an emotional connect with you that you own the company. Can we give that feeling to people?

Our appreciation to PeopleMatters for bringing Piyush Pandey in for an inspiring session. His video will surely transport you through time and help you see how relationships can be built/refreshed over time through the lens of advertising.
